Description: Ofloxacin eye drops are used to treat bacterial eye infections. They work by helping to kill the bacteria which are causing the infection. The chemical name of ofloxacin (RS)-7-fluoro- 2-methyl-6-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)-10-oxo-4-oxa-1-azatricyclo[7.3.1.05,13]trideca-5(13),6,8,11-tetraene-11-carboxylic acid.
Indications: Bacterial infections of the eyes, eg bacterial conjunctivitis.
Precautions: These eye drops are for use in the eye only and must not be taken by mouth. These eye drops may cause your vision to blur temporarily after you have applied them into your eye. Do not drive or operate machinery until this has worn off. Seek medical advice immediately if your symptoms get worse at any point during treatment, or if you think you have new infection. These eye drop should not be used for longer than 10 days.Ofloxacin eye drops are sterile until opened. Any remaining drops should be carefully disposed of four weeks after the first opening and not saved for future use, as they are likely to be contaminated with germs. Use with caution in elderly people, people who are allergic to other quinolone-type antibiotics, eg ,ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, people with ulcers or other defects on the front part of the eye (corneal ulcers or epithelial defects). Heart disease, such as heart failure, recent heart attack, very slow heart rate (bradycardia) or irregular heart beats (arrhythmias). People with a personal or family history of a type of abnormal heart rhythm, seen on a heart monitoring trace (ECG) as a 'prolonged QT interva. People with disturbances in the normal levels of salts (electrolytes) in their blood, for example low magnesium or potassium levels.This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Ofloxacin may pass into breast milk after application into the eye. These eye drops are not recommended for use during breastfeeding, as there are usually safer alternative antibiotics available.
Adverse reaction: blurred vision that does not go away, burning, stinging, or itching of the eyes or eyelids, redness, swelling, or pain of the eyes or eyelids,temporary blurred vision, tearing or feeling of something in the eye.
